Dr. Battani first became licensed in the State of Texas in February of 1991. He’s been a member of the American Optometric Association and the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association since 1986. He has over 35 years of experience in private practice optometry, with emphasis in primary care family optometry, and contact lens specialty.
Dr. Battani is a native Iowan with mid-western roots. He grew up in the small rural community of Algona, Iowa and is a proud graduate of Algona High School Class of 1982 (Go Bulldogs!). While there he was a four-sport varsity athlete, active in the concert choir, swing choir, all state choir, drama, National Honor Society, and a summer camp counselor for underprivileged children.
Dr. Battani is a 1986 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (Go Panthers!). He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Science degree with emphasis in chemistry and microbiology, graduating with honors. He was a founding father of the Mu Upsilon chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
He was a 1990 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and completed an internship in a hospital setting at the Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center, under a pediatric ophthalmologist. He completed rotations in pediatric and binocular vision, low vision, and contact lens specialty clinics, while at I.C.O. Because of his fondness for children, Dr. Battani considered specializing in pediatric optometry but ultimately chose family practice.
A good portion of his current practice are school age children, which has coincided with his interest in the emerging science of myopia control and management. With the current trend toward excessive electronic screen time, required both in education and the workplace, he is actively engaged in helping to address and manage the explosion of myopia in the emerging younger population. In keeping with his concern for the well being and development of children, Dr. Battani is active in supporting local children’s charities, such as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, PediPlace, and is a full participating provider for VSP’s Sight For Students program.
Dr. Battani is currently in his 36th season playing in local amateur baseball leagues. Knights Championship Baseball has been one of his dearest passions and he bleeds for the Blue and Orange, with just about every breath. He’s also a long suffering Dallas sports fan and can be seen pulling for his Cowboys, Mavericks, Rangers, and Stars in a repetitive vicious cycle, to keep hope alive!
Dr. Battani is friendly and engaging and loves to laugh. He is currently accepting new patients and welcomes the opportunity to serve you and the visual needs of your family.
